The Great Park Pursuit is back for a third year! The 2008 kick-off event will feature a Clean Air Theme, with special activities including kite making, professional kite flyers, a hot air balloon from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., Birds of Prey, the Learn to be a Meteorologist game, and a Clean Energy Dance Contest. There will be free bicycle safety checks, so bring your bikes and helmets, too! Registered AND non-registered team encouraged to attend anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Don't forget to pack water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent!

A two mile woodland walk to a trap rock hill, a good spot for a snack with possible views of the Barndoor Hills. The loop ends at the old McLean cabin and the adjacent trout pond with diverse wildlife. Meet at 10:00 am at the main entrance to the refuge on Route 10/202 in Granby. In the event of rain, the hike will be cancelled.

Bethany's 2nd Annual Earth Day Bethany Town Hall, 40 Peck Road, Bethany, CT 06524 5/17/08 12:00 PM 4:00 PM
Last year over 250 Children, Teenagers, Parents and Friends of the environment attended. We expect to double the number of attendees this year. The Bethany Garden Club will be helping children create their amazing disappearing (bio-degradable) flower pots. The winners of the Amity Global Warming Contest will also be on display and the winners from Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge will be awarded their prizes at 2 PM. There will be exhibits from electric lawnmowers to environmentally friendly cleaning products. In addition, the Town Hall parking lot will be host to an alternative fuel/hybrid car show. A-1 Toyota will provide free demonstration rides in a brand new Prius or Hybrid Camry. Dworkin Chevrolet will also display the latest Flex Fuel Cars. There will also be several vegetable oil powered cars. A portable solar hot water heating system will also be on display.

Northwestern Connecticut Sportsmen's Association presents Women Gone Wild - a life changing outdoor experience for women to benefit the Connecticut chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mini classes include: Archery, Intro to pistol, Intro to Rifle, Intro to Muzzle Loader, Intro to Shotgun, Emergency First Aid, Wetlands Ecology, Bird Watching (instructed by Sharon Audubon Society), Hiking, Field to Plate, Fishing, Fly Fishing. Also, Theresa Kramer of Canton Raptor Rescue will be on hand in the morning to introduce her birds, educate on the role of raptors in the wild, and introduce some of her patients. Cost is $50, with a 10% early bird discount if registered before May 5. Fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, all instruction and equipment. Mother/Daughter special is $85.00 for both. Age 14 and older.
