Stratton Brook State Park

Stratton Brook State Park

Formerly part of neighboring Massacoe State Forest, Stratton Brook State Park is best known for its trout fishing, swimming and bikeway. The park features two ponds - a “swimming hole” and a fishing pond frequently stocked with trout. During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps turned what was then Massacoe State Forest into a recreational area, but the state transferred it back to the parks division after World War II. Today, old railroad tracks cutting through the park mark an impressive bike path, which travels over scenic brooks and is shaded by white pines. In 1996, the park became Connecticut’s first completely wheelchair accessible state park. Visitors can enjoy a multitude of seasonal activities including picnicking, swimming, field sports, cross-country skiing, biking and ice skating.
